French producer, composer, and songwriter Petit Biscuit seamlessly blends his signature electronic sound with R&B and alternative flair on “We Were Young (ft. JP Cooper).” Driven by an equal parts catchy and powerful instrumental melody alongside JP Cooper’s brilliant vocals that emphasize the track’s heart and soul, it’s a release that’s tailormade to take listeners on a journey and crystalizes Petit Biscuit’s growth as an artist to date.

Petit Biscuit, born Mehdi Benjelloun, explains in detail: “I started to compose ‘We Were Young’ even before the release of my debut album Presence. I needed a lot of time with it, and meeting JP Cooper – who’s singing on the track – was the last push to finalize it. ‘We Were Young’ is like a hymn to an innocent love, a beautiful love… even a bit too beautiful to be true. ‘We Were Young’ really is a big blend of my pop and electronic influences, even going to gospel on the choruses. Working together with JP on the different vocal parts of the track was a real pleasure. His particular tone brought a lot of freshness to my electronic production.”

As for JP Cooper, he notes, “I was so excited to get in the studio with Mehdi (Petit Biscuit) I’d heard some of his work and absolutely loved his sound. Genuinely I think this kid is a bit of a genius when it comes to electronic music. I wanted to make sure that I brought a little bit of my flavor to the track and I think it fused beautifully. It was really interesting to try and write a classic sounding chorus over such a modern sounding track and I’m super happy with how it turned out.

A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer, Petit Biscuit has converted his classically trained talents into critical acclaim over the course of his career. With a debut album, Presence, that charted worldwide in 2017, he’s also wowed audiences on the live circuit with performances at the likes of Coachella, Lollapalooza, HARD, and more. He recently completed his most extensive tour to date with sold out dates in Boston, NYC, Vancouver, Seattle and Los Angeles. His most recent studio effort, “Wide Awake”, was a genre-bending confrontation of the collision between analog and digital which came equipped with a stunning, CGI and live action infused music video.

Petit Biscuit kicked off 2019 with a global journey––travelling across Iceland and California garnering inspiration for his new album. Along the way, he encountered breathtaking landscapes and memorable new experiences. “Life on the road is always surprising,” he says. “It’s a constant progression toward the unknown.” He documented his travels for fans in the Journey To New Music 2019 series – watch full episodes here.

Other highlights of Petit Biscuit’s career include over half a billion Spotify streams, being awarded best live performer at the NRJ DJ Awards 2018, a primetime national TV performance on the esteemed French music award ceremony Les Victoires de la Musique 2018, covering Phoenix’s “1901” on triple j’s essential Like A Version series, and international radio support from SiriusXM Chill to Triple J.
